Refugee & Migrant Mental Health Training & Fellowship Program

The Tunisian Centre for Public Health, JEUNES PSY the Association of Young Doctors and Residents in Psychiatry and Medecins du Monde Tunisia are organizing a Refugee & Migrant Mental Health fellowship program” that we will start with a training in January the 14th and 15th of January at WHO office in Tunis (Rue du développement – 1053 Cité El Khadhra – Tunisie).


The training will be delivered by Dr. Karima Wiksten Assel, Affiliate Senior Researcher at Epidemiology of Mental Health Group at Karolinska Institutet- Sweden and Dr. Frida Johansson Metso an expert in Trauma and Psychological Interventions for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The training will be delivered to researchers and clinicians in mental health, psychiatry and psychology and other researchers and professionals interested in mental health and migration.


Topics will be about: 
  • Migration and Mental Health
  • How to identify PTSD
  • Treatment of PTSD- adults
  • Treatment of PTSD- children and adolescents
  • Mental health research
  • An introduction to culture sensitive psychiatric diagnostics
  • Case discussions- transcultural aspects of suicide assessment

Most of the training will be in English.
The training fees for the 2 days are:
  • Jeunes Psy Members: 40 TND 
  •  Non-Member: 60 TND  
Training certificates will be delivered only for candidates who attend the two days training.


After the initial 2 days training two persons will be selected to receive a Research Scholarship to conduct a research project on migration and mental health in Tunisia (6-8 Months).
Dr. Karima Wiksten Assel, will be the mentor for the research and Medecins du Monde Tunisia will be helping the researchers to access to information and to the migrant communities in Tunisia.
Selection for the research fellowship will be opened after the training.
